JCC Maccabi Games Squad Announced
Following a successful trip to San Francisco last year, Maccabi GB in partnership with UJIA has announced the 35 man squad that will travel to Denver, USA for the 2010 JCC Maccabi Games (the largest event for Jewish teen athletes in the world) this August.
Team GB has participated in the JCC Maccabi Games for 16 consecutive years with more than 1,000 young people taking part. However, the Games are about 'More than Just Sport'. The JCC Maccabi Games aims to promote the health, physical fitness and the well-being of Jewish youth through their participation in recreational and athletic activities. Whilst there is a big emphasis on the sporting aspect of the JCC Maccabi Games, the most important part of these Games is meeting up with other Jews from around the world. Athletes are hosted at families and there is an evening activity every night that offers all of the athletes the chance to socialise and learn about cultures of different Jewish communities.
Team GB Delegation Heads, Brian and Helena Green said of the squad, "We are absolutely delighted with the quality of the 35 strong squad and management team which includes participants from Glasgow, Belfast, Birmingham, Manchester and London. We are very confident of returning home with a haul of medals and, more importantly, plenty of new friends."
