Community Dog Walk 2010
Maccabi GB Leads the Way with the 3rd Community Dog Walk
July 2010
On Sunday 11th July, Maccabi GB in partnership with UJIA held its third annual Community Dog Walk at Mill Hill Park raising nearly £1,500 in aid of its Challenge Tour to Israel for Young People with Special Needs and Disabilities.
This year's event proved to be a great family day out with the addition of many trade and private dog related stalls and a variety of fun competitions for dogs of all ages and breeds that took place throughout the afternoon in a central show ring.
The Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Anthony Finn accompanied by the Mayoress Mrs Anita Finn, officially opened the proceedings by cutting a ribbon to start the walk.
Russ Kane, the well-known broadcaster, columnist and writer, compered throughout the afternoon, adding his own brand of wit and flair to the competitions and the raffle.
Over 300 people and 120 dogs of all shapes and sizes took part in this unique event and made the most of the fantastic weather.
Medivet and the Holders Hill Veterinary Surgery (part of Wood Street Veterinary Hospital) conscientiously judged the competitions and donated some fabulous prizes and rosettes to all winners and runners up in each category.
Event organiser Valerie Herman said, "This event gets bigger every year and the attendance was excellent. It is especially pleasing to see whole families attending the event as there are no other community events that provide this opportunity. It was a very relaxed atmosphere and the community gathered together for what turned out to be a very sociable occasion both for the dogs and their owners."
