Maccabi GB’s busy tournament schedule continued last week with two tournaments taking place. On Wednesday 9th November the Primary Schools Years 3 & 4 Football tournament took place, followed on Thursday with the Secondary Schools Girls Football Tournament. Between both events over 320 young people were engaged in Maccabi GB sports.
The Primary Schools Years 3 & 4 Football saw ten schools take part bringing twenty teams to compete. The teams were split into groups before heading into a knockout tournament to determine a winning team. The games were close and exciting with lots of goals and the many parents and teachers who came along to support their children were treated to some great games. Ultimately it was Kerem School who managed to fend off all the opposition to lift the trophy.
The Secondary Girls Football Tournament saw five schools bring teams made up of students from Years 7 right through to Year 11. Each year group played in a separate tournament and all the girls really enjoyed competing against their counterparts from the other Jewish schools. In Year 7 JFS won their group. The Year 8 tournament was dominated by Yavneh College who took the winners medals. In Year 9 the JFS team went through the whole event without dropping any points to claim top spot. The senior tournament was won by Hasmonean School, with some excellent performances.
Scott Shulton, Maccabi GB’s School Sports Coordinator, was pleased to see so many people participating in Maccabi GB tournaments, ‘This week over 320 young people have taken part in Maccabi GB tournaments, from as young as eight years old right through to eighteen years old. Each person has been provided with an opportunity to showcase their sporting talents in a supportive and friendly environment.
‘We really hope that many of the girls who competed this week will sign up for the JCC Maccabi Games next summer. It would be fantastic to take a girls squad out to compete in America and represent Team GB’.
