The last two Maccabi GB tournaments have been held in very contrasting weather conditions. On Wed 16th May Maccabi GB, in partnership with UJIA, held the Primary Years 3/4 football tournament in rainy and cold conditions, then just a week later on Wed 23rd May the Primary Year 4 Netball took place in near perfect sunshine.
The Primary Football was held at the Power League site in Mill Hill with ten schools bringing nineteen teams to compete. A total of 180 young people were engaged in the event. The group stages of the afternoon saw some exciting games with lots of goals to celebrate. As the teams progressed through into the knockout stages the games became much closer. Akiva and Clore Shalom made it through to the final where Akiva dominated the game and ran out winners to lift the trophy.
The Girls Year 4 Netball was held at London Maccabi with five schools brining thirteen teams to the competition. In total 120 girls took part in the tournament. Many of the girls were competing at a Maccabi GB event for the very first time and there was lots of excitement throughout the afternoon. Ultimately it was Kerem and Sinai School that made it through to the final with Kerem working a late winning goal to claim the winner’s trophy.
Scott Shulton, Maccabi GB’s Sports Coordinator, was pleased with the first Primary Tournaments of the summer term, “Over the past week we have engaged 300 young boys and girls in sports events, this is just the beginning of a very busy summer term filled with many different sports activities for young people. Everyone looks forward to these tournaments so much as they provide a chance for players of all abilities to represent their schools and play sports. We have had a real mix of players and weather! We look forward to the other primary tournaments coming up in the next few weeks.”
