Maccabi GB, in partnership with UJIA and the Jewish Chronicle, is delighted to announce the Gymnastics Squad who will represent Great Britain at the 20th Maccabiah Games 2017.
The squad train under Rocio Sanchez Fernandez at London Academy of Gymnastics and Dance Rhythmic Gymnastics Club (LAGAD-RG). The highly talented trio of Bella Bray, Hannah Slavin and Chiara Whitfield will represent Team Maccabi GB in Rhythmic Gymnastics – a first for Great Britain at the Maccabiah Games – and Zoe Harris who will compete in the Artistic category following in the footsteps of her father who competed in three Maccabiah Games previously. The squad are fortunate enough to benefit from having Sports Psychologist and past Maccabiah athlete Hannah Levi who plays an integral role is helping manage the girls’ school work and training.
On selecting the squad, head coach, Sanchez Fernandez said “Hannah, Bella, Chiara and Zoe all have a wealth of experience having competed from a young age and are excited to make their training a reality this summer. We are equally excited to have Hannah as part of our squad who gives the girls the support they need to life as a Maccabiah athlete.”
She continued “This marks a truly special occasion to not only be able to represent Great Britain but to also take part in the “Jewish Olympics”. It is an opportunity to which the girls are completely committed to and one that they will never forget.”

Team Maccabi GB will be competing alongside 10,000 other Jewish athletes from 80 countries from 2nd – 18th July 2017.
