With Wimbledon is out of the way, here is your chance to represent GB
July 2010

Maccabi GB in partnership with UJIA have announced their plans for tennis at next summer's 13th European Maccabi Games in Vienna.

Greg Rack has been appointed Chair and he will be assisted by Jan Feldman. Greg has been involved with Maccabi GB for a number of years and last summer he Chaired the largest ever Maccabi GB tennis squad to travel to Israel for the Maccabiah Games. Unfortunately the squad did not experience much success; however Greg is hoping this will be different in Austria with a number of promising junior and senior players coming through the ranks.

The trials, taking place on 5th September at Chandos LTC, will be open to anyone who wishes to take part and experience the fantastic atmosphere that is created at international sporting events such as the European Maccabi Games. Recruitment is also still open for managers of the Junior squad.

Of his appointment Greg said, "Having had my first taste of international competition at the Maccabiah Games last year I can't wait to start the planning for next year's Games. There will be some real quality in our squads based on what I experienced last summer and whilst winning isn't everything, I am very optimistic about bringing home some medals. I am pleased that Austria is hosting the European Maccabi Games - there is something very special about Jews from all over the world congregating in Vienna and I am excited about the challenges that lie ahead."

For more information on how to get involved in the European Maccabi Games please contact the office on 020 8457 2333 or email enquiries@maccabigb.org or apply online at www.maccabigb.org. You will be unable to attend the trials unless you have completed the registration forms.

Maccabi GB Announce Plans for Junior Basketball
June

Maccabi GB in partnership with UJIA have announced their plans for basketball at next year's European Maccabi Games in Vienna and looking further forwards, the Maccabiah Games in 2013.

The two people charged with developing basketball are Marc Diner and Craig Harris. Both have competed at numerous Maccabiot including last year's Games where Marc was Chair of basketball and Craig managed the boys' basketball squad. Craig has also led teams to the JCC Maccabi Games in North America.

Maccabi GB are looking to recruit youngsters aged 11 and over to learn and play basketball with the objective of representing Team GB at the 2011 European Maccabi Games and the 2013 Maccabiah Games. The trials, taking place on 11th July, will be open to all those who are interested, have a desire to learn and would like to be part of a positive team environment.

Marc commented, "Representing Maccabi GB at either the European or Maccabiah Games is an honour and a great experience for the young people who attend these international events. Whilst the competition is tough, the atmosphere is electric and being part of a large delegation makes all the hard work worthwhile. Participating in international competitions allows young people to grow as individuals, learn from others and understand what it takes to succeed. I have some great memories from 5 different Maccabiot which bring back a lot of pleasure - the friends you make, the places you see and the enjoyment of winning is why we do this."

June 2010

Maccabi GB in partnership with UJIA, have appointed Brad Solomon (Chair) and Dr Tamar Koch (Vice Chair) to develop the Junior Girl's and Senior Women's Football Squads for the next 3 years in preparation for next year's European Maccabi Games in Vienna and the 2013 Maccabiah Games.

Both Brad and Tamar share the following aims and objectives:

- To build on the success of both inaugural squads from last summer's 18th Maccabiah Games

- To create a fluid link between the Junior and Senior squads

- To create larger more skilful squads from around the whole of the UK

- To offer UEFA B license coaching staff to both squads at all training sessions

- To run regular training camps at Lilleshall and Bisham Abbey for both squads

- To have regular invitational friendlies throughout the year

- To develop two squads capable of medaling at the European and Maccabiah Games

The Senior Women's Squad trials will take place at Rowley Lane on 4th July to select a 22 person squad to go to the European Games in Vienna in July 2011. Once the selection process is complete the 22 players will be taken to Lilleshall National Centre for Sporting Excellence for a Training Camp weekend from the 4th to 6th September which will culminate in a friendly with Chesterfield Ladies Town FC.

The Junior Girl's Squad (14 - 16 years old) trials will take place at Rowley Lane on 11th July to help select a squad to go to the European Maccabi Games next summer. Once the squad of 20 players is selected a weekend training camp will be held in the autumn of 2010.

Junior Management Team:

Rob Abrahams - Manager
Jo Webber and Esther Collins - Assistant Managers
Elliot Smith - Head Coach

Senior Management Team:

Brad Solomon - Manager
TBC - Assistant Manager

Brad commented, "Tamar and I are very excited about being able to be involved in helping to generate both enthusiasm and a competitive spirit when building Jewish girl's and women's football in the coming three and a half years. We both intend to ensure that we get a range of Jewish female players who as yet have not been involved in representing Maccabi GB and encourage players from all over Britain to get involved. By running training camps in the north of England as well as in the south we hope to tempt more players to sign up. After the success of the women's squad in Israel, we were keen to help develop Jewish grass roots football further.

"I believe that Rob has a fantastic approach to football and will be a huge asset to the Girls Squad. His football background and coaching qualifications will ensure that the squad is in the best shape it can be when the Games come round next July. Rob has a fantastic management team with Jo and Esther being fully involved with Maccabi GB since their teens and Elliot Smith has already got one Maccabiah games under his belt despite being only 21."

To attend the trials you must register for the European Maccabi Games online at www.maccabigb.org. For more information contact Elizabeth Fishel on 020 8457 2333

Team GB Plan on Bowling the Opposition over once again
April 2010

Maccabi GB has named Matthew Plax as the Sports Chair for Ten Pin Bowling at the 2011 European Maccabi Games in Vienna, in partnership with UJIA.

Matthew has been involved with Maccabi GB Bowling for a number of years and has a great deal of experience. He competed at the 2005 Maccabiah Games and managed the ten pin bowling teams at the 2007 European Games in Rome and at the 2009 Maccabiah Games.

Of his appointment Matthew said, "We intend to take a full team of six bowlers, with a squad strong enough to win individual and team gold in Vienna. There are a number of younger bowlers who have not taken part in an international Maccabi event before, but who are certainly good enough to break through into the team."

Matthew continued, "The tenpin bowling team swept the board in Rome and was one of Team GB's biggest successes at the Games. Gary Ellis in particular proved himself as one of the best bowlers in Europe with a five medal haul. The bar has been set very high but I am confident that the team will deliver more medals in Vienna."

Open Futsal Management Team Announced
April 2010

The management team for Open Futsal at the 2011 European Maccabi Games in Vienna has been announced by Maccabi GB, in partnership with UJIA.

Of his appointment Jonathan said, "Dan and I are both thrilled and honoured to have been appointed as open team managers. We learned a huge amount from managing the under 18 team at the Maccabiah in Israel last summer and we both feel as if we have unfinished business we need to attend to. We are both looking forward to working with James Rossa - a specialist Brazilian Futsal coach from UK National Futsal League team London United - and Maccabi GB Futsal chair Johnny Cainer whose experiences and subject knowledge we will no doubt benefit from. In terms of player profile we will be looking for skilful fit players who we feel will fit in to a strong team ethic and will be able to embrace the Maccabi spirit."

Dan added, "Whilst winning a medal would be fantastic, we hope to lay proper foundations for a Futsal team which will ultimately be able to go to future European or Maccabiah Games" with the same expectations as the 11-a-side teams."
