PETER MORRISON CUP (Number in brackets represents division of side)
NORTH WEST NEASDEN B VS REDBRIDGE B
Sammy Carr’s Neasden side had to endure a first last week – and it wasn’t one which they would have hoped for as it saw them fall to their first league loss of the season against Montana.
Although still in a favourable position to end the season with the title, their two most recent games have seen them struggle, meaning fellow division one side Redbridge could capitalise on this and take the honours here.
While Redbridge themselves have had to endure a poor run of form of late, they did at least get back to winning ways last week, even if it was against the division’s bottom side.
However two wins is six points and it saw Richard Bronzite’s side shoot up to fourth spot in the table, even if they have played more games than anyone else in the division – in the case of some up to four games more.
Realistically speaking, Redbridge may have to well kiss goodbye to any hopes they had of securing silverware, meaning the cup is all they have to go for to keep their season alive.
Neasden have bigger fish to fry though will want to be able to push on in the league without suffering a second consecutive defeat. Over the course of the season, Neasden have been the better side, expect that to show here in what will be a closely-fought win.
TJ PREDICTION:

CYRIL ANEKSTEIN CUP (Number in brackets represents division of side)
FAITHFOLD A (Prem) VS OAKWOOD (1)
Oakwood are beginning to show signs that they could well yet figure in the promotion shake-up. They may be sitting third-from-bottom, but that positioning masks the fact that they’re also sitting a mere three points off third spot.
Two wins from their double-header encounter against Red Sea has further boosted those credentials, though they’ll have to raise their game considerably if they’re to cause an upset here.
They got to this stage of the competition by beating premier division opposition in the previous round, and even if it was against South Manx – statistically the worst team in the division – they did nonetheless put a dozen goals past them.
Faithfold come into this game on the back of a week’s break following a defeat at home by Neasden A. Manager Zuriel Solomon felt his side didn’t really turn up on the day though is still confident that they can be a force to be reckoned with in the title race. This is the first of three cup games in the row and while they go into this tie as strong candidates, will be wary of Oakwood’s previous cup exploits.
Os player-manager Ric Blank said his side produced their best in the previous and in all honesty it will have to be even better than that if they’re to cause an upset here. They’ll give it their best, but premier division class will see the Greens through here.
TJ PREDICTION:
FAITHFOLD A (Prem) 3 OAKWOOD (1) 1
----------------------------------------------------
HENDON UNITED A (Prem) VS LONDON MACCABI LIONS B
An all-premier division clash will see Hendon go into this tie high on confident given the run for their money they gave the Lions A side in the league last week.
When you bear in mind the run of form the Lions A side were in, the fact that Hendon didn’t win – which was only down to an 85th minute penalty miss by Saul Conway – shows how well they played. As manager David Garbacz said: "We should have won today but unfortunately missed from the spot. Overall we deserved to win."
That point keeps them well and truly in the title race though they are also just as keen to do well in the cup – and will fancy their chances of getting the better over a Lions side this week.
The Lions, with Gavin Stollar back at the helm, dropped to joint-bottom in the league last week following a 3-2 defeat by the Manx. Stollar was understandably downbeat with the result when he said: “We were poor today just not at the races. We'll bounce back though, we have good character and strength in depth.”
With only a run in the cup to keep alive their season, it’s a big ask given Hendon’s recent run of form. Unlucky not to beat the A’s, they will enjoy victory over the Bs on Sunday.
TJ PREDICTION:
HENDON UNITED A (Prem) 2 LONDON MACCABI LIONS B 1
----------------------------------------------------
MONTANA BOCA A (1) VS NORTH WEST NEASDEN A (Prem)
A second consecutive cup tie for the premier division champions, and while last week’s 9-0 win over division four outfit Blizzard Storm proved to be something of a cakewalk, this weekend will prove to me much more of a test.
Going to town seven days ago, they’re up against a Montana side who inflicted a first league defeat of the season on Neasden B last week, and buoyed by that could prove to be a tricky test for Neasden.
The premier division champions won’t exactly have fond memories of their last tie against division one opposition, when Brady pushed them all the way before Neasden prevailed in a penalty shoot-out with the scores having been level at 3-3 after extra time.
Montana still have an outside chance of winning promotion and if they can reciprocate their level of performance from last week, can expect to be playing the likes of Neasden on a more regular basis next season. Neasden, though, have been there, done it, and got the t-shirt, expect them to book their place in the next round.
TJ PREDICTION:
MONTANA BOCA A (1) 1 NORTH WEST NEASDEN A (Prem) 3
----------------------------------------------------
NL RAIDERS A (1) VS LONDON MACCABI LIONS A (Prem)
There’s the potential of another upset here as the division one leaders host the premier division leaders.
The Raiders increased their lead at the top of the table to five points last week following a 1-0 win over Camden Park – their second consecutive win of the same margin which came thanks to a second consecutive Jonny Blain win.
Joint-manager Danny Caro recognised the fact that while it may not have been the best performance of the season, substance overt style is the all-important factor right now. He said “This win came as a result of another resilient display. The match wasn't a classic by any stretch of the imagination as we weren't allowed the time and space to play our normal passing game, but at this stage of the season, the boys know that the result is all that matters.”
And with the flying high at the top, the league takes precedence over the cup for them, as joint-manager Adam Fegan said: “This cup game is not our priority and with so many injuries we are not really looking to take anything out of the game. If we can concede fewer than seven it represents progress on last season's cup meeting. But with so many players out, I will just be looking forward to the final whistle so we can concentrate on the league."
Lions manager Eilon Kennet won’t have been too happy with his side’s performance last week, and they were lucky to come away from their game against Hendon A with a point given a late penalty miss from the hammers.
Hoping last week’s draw will prove to be a mere blip as opposed to anything more serious, the Raiders aren’t expecting much from this game. Could it be kidology and mind games on the Raiders behalf? Even if it is, the Lions will get through this.

PREMIER DIVISION (D/H represents double-header)
UPDATED PREMIER DIVISION TABLE
SOUTH MANX A VS HENDON UNITED B (D/H)
Hendon will be looking to go into this game to pull away from the bottom two in the table though come into the game on the back of being knocked out of the cup by division two side FC Team A last week.
While there may have been some mitigating circumstances in that game, notably playing a striker from their D team in goal, joint-manager Martin Smulovitch could only reflect back on a disappointing morning when he said: "Although we were missing a few key players, we were still very poor today and were not at the races. It's also extremely disappointing as it was the last realistic chance to compete for silverware this season."
Critical of his side’s overall performance, he said: “There was no doubt they deserved to win but our lethargic attitude and lack of passion and drive didn't help our cause.”
While they were going down to that defeat, the Manx, who days earlier had all but folded, were being rejuvenated under new manager Craig Edwards. And whatever he said worked as the Manx went out and recorded their first win of the league season since the opening day of the season.
Two consecutive wins – especially as it would come against Hendon B seems unlikely even given Hendon’s cup exit last week. The best they can hope for is one point from six
TJ PREDICTION:
SOUTH MANX A VS HENDON UNITED B 1-2/0-2
----------------------------------------------------
DIVISION ONE:
UPDATED DIVISION ONE TABLE
CAMDEN PARK VS SOUTHGATE HARMEN A
Nine points off top spot with three games in hand means Harmen are still in the title shake-up though if they hope to stay there they’ll need to buckle up their ideas.
Two draws in their last two games was compounded by their Peter Morrison cup exit last week at the hands of Brady and these are slightly unnerving if not worrying times for the Ashmole School outfit.
They would love to go back to their early season form, and would certainly take a repeat performance of their opening game of the season when they took on the Graphites and came away with a 6-0 win.
That loss set Justin Rockberger’s side on a rocky start to the season which only in recent months has begun to pick up.
Camden just still about cling on to hopes of promotion even if they seem more remote than realistic. However, performances have picked up of late and even in going down to a 1-0 defeat to the leaders lat week, Rockberger was still left to think what if when he said: “It was a very tight game and I thought on the balance of play we deserved something from it.”
If Harmen continue to have an of day, Camden could well capitalise and at least claim what a few weeks ago would have seemed an unlikely point.
TJ PREDICTION:
CAMDEN PARK 1 SOUTHGATE HARMEN A 2
----------------------------------------------------
RED SEA VS BRIXTON OLD BOYS (D/H)
The battle of the bottom two sees six points up for grabs and although both sides are destined for relegation, both can give themselves a pick-me up by grabbing two wins here.
Brixton are bottom, pointless from 11 games though they’ve acted to try and make amends by announcing John Nitka as their new manager. Releasing a club statement about the appointment, it read: “Brixton Old Boys are delighted to announce the appointment of John Nitka as their new Team Manager with immediate effect. John was previously manager of South Manx and responsible for their promotion as Division One champions in 2008/9.
“Formed in 1955, Brixton old Boys are the longest surviving member club of the MSF.. The club would like to wish John every success in his new position and look forward to him playing a key role in returning this historic club to it’s former level of achievement.”
Having appointed a new manager, the club are now looking for new players to bring into the club, and while this season may be a forlorn effort, they can beign in earnest looking ahead to the future.
In the immediate future, they can close the gap on Sunday on the side above them to a point, and given Red Sea form this season, if Nitka can have the desired effect, they could achieve their objective.
Having threatened to go on a run with two wins against Redbridge a fornight ago, two defeats by Oakwood last week saw them sink back to that losing feeling. The Redbridge victories showed they have something about them though it’s been few and far between.
Red Sea have it within them, Brixton have a new manager – a share of the spoils here.
TJ PREDICTION:
RED SEA VS BRIXTON OLD BOYS 1-2/2-1
----------------------------------------------------
DIVISION TWO:
UPDATED DIVISION TWO TABLE
CHIGWELL VS SOUTHGATE HARMEN B
Hanging onto a top four spot, Harmen held title-chasing Lions C to a 2-2 draw last week, a point and performance which pleased manager Daniel Sasto, who said: “It was an excellent hard-working performance from the whole team and the draw was a fair result.”
Harmen are currently going through a mixed spell of form which has seen them win at the leaders Raiders, while following that up with a defeat at Faithfold B who at the time were struggling at the foot of the table.
This week sees them come up against a Chigwell side who are fighting to avoid the drop, and in their latest effort to do that, they earned a well-deserved point against the leaders last week. The fact that they got the point despite trailing 3-1 with just ten minutes left pleased manager Richard Slater even more. He said: “I'm proud of the lads. After last week's shocker they gave the perfect and correct response to show how good the spirit is within the squad to bounce back.
"We dominated the game, and restricted the league leaders to four or five chances throughout the whole match. We're all gutted to have conceded such cheap goals and not to have come away with all three points. Everyone was superb.”
Both sides come into this game on good form and both need the points here, albeit for different reasons. There won’t be much in it but if there is to be one winner, Harmen may just nick it.
TJ PREDICTION:
CHIGWELL 2 SOUTHGATE HARMEN B 2
----------------------------------------------------
FC TEAM A VS FC TEAM B (D/H)
A clash of the two Teams side will see the A’s go into this double-header clash as favourites, and if they needed any further boost ahead of this game, go into it on the back of knocking out premier division opposition in the cup last week.
Two James Ryan goals saw them to a 2-1 win last week and although manager Jonathan Pearl took great joy and pride from that win, he insists it’s in the league where their priorities lie.
He said: “The league is our main priority as we want to be playing top class teams every week, not just in the cups. We have always had a passion for this cup as it allows us to play the better teams but all in all, the league is our main aim and priority.
"We believe that the league is achieveable and if we continue our great form and win all our games in hand then we will be clear at the top. It will be a long tough season but we have a great squad with committed players who love FC Team, and this result will certainly help the confidence.”
Unsurprisingly, the A’s have always come out on top when these two sides have met and going into this game you can’t see how this pattern will change. Having said that, Ben Simon’s side recent form has been encouraging and it continued last week as they beat Faithfold 3-1, a result which pleased Simon who said: “It was a solid performance, we dominated the majority of the game and came out deserved winners!”
Their A team however are a different proposition and while they’ll be well up for it, six points from six beckon for the A’s.
TJ PREDICTION:
FC TEAM A VS FC TEAM B 3-1/2-0
----------------------------------------------------
NL RAIDERS B VS TEMPLE FORTUNE
Rob Richman’s side must be kicking themselves following last week’s results which saw their lead stay as five points when it could have been even healthier.
The fact that two of their nearest rivals would have been welcomed, but the fact that they too dropped two points against Chigwell despite being 3-1 up with just ten minutes left must be really hard to bear.
They do though still command a healthy lead and will have a chance this week to move further away from one of their other challengers when they host third place Fortune.
While three of the top four were dropping points left, right and centre last week, Fortune were in cup action and although they bailed out of the Peter Morrison at the hands of premier division Redbridge, the beaten side were anything but downbeat.
Full of praise for their side, Fortune's Mike Shorvon said: "We were absolutely superb and I think the scoreline flattered them. It was a magnificent performance. We missed a hatful of chances and I think it bodes well for the future that we can compete like that. I never come away happy when we lose but I was delighted with how we battled so hard against a Premier team."
Lee Fegan added: "I'm over the moon with second half performance in particular. Players listened to what was expected and we made it hard for a Premier team. I personally felt we could have come away with something with the chances we created. It was a good experience playing against a top team."
Hoping that experience can hold them in good stead for the remainder of the season, Fortune will be hoping they can carry on where they left off last week and take the game to the leaders. Having struck six wins together, the Raiders now go into this game looking for their first win in three. That they should achieve but it will be close.
TJ PREDICTION:
NL RAIDERS B 3 TEMPLE FORTUNE 2
----------------------------------------------------
RAPID BANTA VS LONDON MACCABI LIONS C
Frank Steinberg will be hoping his side can keep up their title push this weekend and with respect to Banta, should do that given the fact that they’re coming up against a side who sit one place off bottom spot.
Lions go into this game on the back of a 2-2 draw against Harmen B, a game which drew a mixed response from Steinberg. He said: “We were behind twice so showed good character, but I was slightly disappointed with the quality of our overall play.”
However, while the Lions are second from top, Banta are second from bottom and had to rely on an 85th minute equaliser to salvage a point against the bottom side Holy Mount Zion. Manager Ben Nathan didn’t pull any punches when assessing his side’s first half display when he labelled it “an awful first half”, but then said: “we dominated the second and were unlucky not to win.”
The sides last mEt recently when the Lions ran out 2-0 winners, expext a result of similar proportions this weekend.
TJ PREDICTION:
RAPID BANTA 0 LONDON MACCABI LIONS C 2
----------------------------------------------------
DIVISION THREE:
UPDATED DIVISION THREE TABLE
FC HEATH VS HENDON C
While it may not have been the biggest shock of the weekend, Hendon’s 3-2 defeat at the hands of Catford was at the least somewhat surprising given that it brought to an end a run of four consecutive wins which had propelled them back into the promotion, if not title race.
Being defeated by a side who are fighting for their lives to stay in the division couldn’t have done much for their confidence and they’re up against another side this week who find themselves in a similar predicament as the Cats.
FC Heath are third-from-bottom and their recent run of form is nothing to write home about given that they’ve lost their last three games and have conceded 13 games to boot over those 270 minutes of play.
If Hendon may be lacking slightly in the confidence department, shipping half-a-dozen goals last week against Zig Zag wouldn’t have exactly done wonders for the morale of Ray Bloom’s side. Heath got their season off to a flier by beating Hendon 2-1 on the opening day of the season, it’s against the odds that they’ll complete a league double over them this week.
TJ PREDICTION:
FC HEATH 1 HENDON C 2
----------------------------------------------------
FC MARYLEBONE VS ZIG ZAG
Although they recorded an impressive win last week over L’Equipe which saw them move into-joint fourth spot, the fact that they’ve played more games than anyone else in the division will count against them in terms of being able to mount a sustainable challenge for promotion.
Last week’s 2-0 win over Marylebone, for acting-manager Jonathan Davody at least, was not only a good victory, but also one which enacted some revenge from earlier in the season. He said: “It was a good team effort in a very tight game. This is sweet revenge after the humiliation we suffered against the same team back in January. The clean sheet reinforces our position as one of the best defences in division three."
If revenge’s in the offering this week, it will come from Zig Zag after Neal Cohen’s side were left smarting from earlier in the season when they lost 2-1. They will at least go into this game on the back of what can only be described as being a morale-boosting win over Heath – a 6-3 triumph which Cohen labelled a “fantastic win".
That win brought to an end a run of five straight losses and were priceless points which they needed if they’re to stave off relegation. However, that win only took them five points clear of the bottom two and with only three games left for them, need to keep on winning.
Looking for revenge as a result of their earlier defeat, they may though have to settle for a point on this occasion.
TJ PREDICTION:
FC MARYLEBONE 2 ZIG ZAG 2
----------------------------------------------------
L’EQUIPE VS CATFORD & BROMLEY MACCABI
While it may have been unlikely, it was certainly most welcome as a match-winning hat-trick from Joel Isaacs saw the Cats defeat Hendon C 3-2 last week and with it, offered them hope that they can still escape the drop this season.
Five points off safety with games in hand on the top two, Catford’s win last week was only their third league success of the season and the first time they’d scored more than two goals in a game.
L’Equipe are faring better in the league though saw their promotion hopes take a severe dent last week as they suffered that 2-0 reverse against Marylebone, though know a repeat performance of their 4-1 win over the Cats from earlier in the season could resurrect them.
If CAtford are ever going to string two wins together, it should be on the basis of last week’s efforts. L’Equipe blow hot and cold – and if it’s the latter this week, Catford could just nick it.
TJ PREDICTION:
L’EQUIPE 2 CATFORD & BROMLEY MACCABI 1
----------------------------------------------------
WOODFORD WANDERERS VS MONTANABOCA B
Arguably the game of the day as the top-two go head-to-head where a win for the home side will see them open up a six-point lead at the top of the table.
They moved three points clear at the top of the table last week by virtue of a 1-0 win over Faithfold but they go into this game against their nearest title challengers with several notable injuries. Star striker and Woodford’s top goalscorer Jerome Marks is a doubt due to hamstring injury, star winger Jamie Golding is also a doubt, and player-manager Alex Aviram may infact decide to rest the pair in order to try and get them back to full fitness for this big game.
Left-back Andrew Levy who netted last week’s winner is out due to a knee injury, however they will be boosted by the return of captain Jamie Shafron, while Paul Shone returns to the squad after travels last week.
Aviram is also hoping Mitch Hahn will be back to full fitness after his ankle injury, along with left-winger Sam Pestey and Bern who has been out for three weeks with a mouth injury. Elliot Gold will be looking to impress before his suspension kicks in, while Elliott Winner will still be looking for his first goal this season, with the striker coming close on several occasions last week, which also saw him including a effort of the post last week. Finally, Ezekiel will return to center-midfield alongside Aviram after filling in at center-back last week.
Speaking ahead of the game, star center and vice-captain Adam Poole, who has netted for Woodford five times this year said: “We know we are capable of trashing any opposition we come up against in this league however, we have failed to be clinical in recent weeks.
“Defensively we have been solid, three clean sheets in a row is something to boast about. Our backline are unbeatable at the moment. We want to win for Daniel Segal who announced his retirement from football last week due to a terrible knee injury and I know our gaffer will rally the troops for this one.”
If ever Woodford wanted to play Montana, this could be the time to do it. They’ve fallen to two defeats in their last three games – having only lost three times all season, with the most recent being last week when they were on the wrong end of 3-2 scoreline against Norstar.
If manager Nick Goodmaker can take any positives from this game, it will be that they won the earlier game between the two 2-1. They’ll need to show plenty of improvement from last week if they’re to take even a point, though with Woodford flying right now, expect a home win here.
TJ PREDICTION:
WOODFORD WANDERERS 3 MONTANABOCA B 1

DIVISION FOUR
UPDATED DIVISION FOUR TABLE
ATHLETIC BILBAUM VS GLENTHORNE UTD B
Glenthorne suffered somewhat of a rude awakening last week when they found themselves on the receiving end of a 5-3 defeat by JLGB, a loss which could have ramifications on them winning the title.
There were however mitigating circumstances for the loss, as player-manager David Blitz explained when he said: “We had 10 men for 80 minutes and out played them for most of the game." It was though their fourth loss of the season and coupled with Norstar’s win saw them knocked off top spot.
With relegation from division four not being an issue, Bilbaum are fighting for a mid-table placing in the table, something which was made slightly harder following their two losses last week against Jewventus.
Glenthorne can ill-afford another defeat this week and assuming they can keep a full number of players on the pitch, should have few problems in picking up the points here.
An opening day 6-1 win for the Thornes should be repeated in the result, if not margin of victory.
TJ PREDICTION:
ATHLETIC BILBAUM 1 GLENTHORNE UTD B 3
----------------------------------------------------
HENDON UTD D VS NORSTAR B
Capitalising on Glenthorne losing last week, Norstar took full advantage to move three points clear at the top by virtue of a 2-1 win over UJIA, the importance of the win not being lost on manager Jonny Bunt. He said: “It was a massive 2-1 win for the boys and deserved too.”
Josh Gaon proved to be the winning factor as a la Rory De Lapp, it was his two missiles of a long-throw which set up both the goals, and may be something they wish to utilise on in the remainder of the season.
Having dropped just two points from their last 15, and suffered just the one loss to date, they’re certainly showing they have the look of title challengers among them and come up against a Hendon a side who you feel are just going through the motions until the season’s end.
Norstar know what’s at stake. They’ll maintain top spot this weekend.
TJ PREDICTION:
HENDON UTD D 1 NORSTAR B 3
----------------------------------------------------
JEWVENTUS VS TEAM JLGB
Jewventus assistant player-manager Gabriel Saul wasn’t exactly backing in coming forwards last week when praising his side for their two wins over Bilbaum last week – saying the whole squad were worthy of team of the week given the performance they put in.
More importantly, the six points gathered from their double-header success meant they just about keep on the coattails of the promotion shake-up, though know that will all but be finished on Sunday if they lose out here.
The likelihood of that happening is favourable given that JLGB are battling it out at the top of the table, and even though they were up against 10 men for 90% of the game, their win over Glenthorne will have reinforced their confidence and belief that they can still finish top of the pile.
Jewentus have a penchant for going on long unbeaten runs, they’ve only lost once in 11 games. That though could be twice in 12 games come the end of play on Sunday.
TJ PREDICTION:
JEWVENTUS 1 TEAM JLGB 2
----------------------------------------------------
PINNER VS REAL LIFE (D/H)
It doesn’t happen often so when Pinner do win a game they have every right to shout about it.
Last week’s success lifted them off the bottom of the table and was due in no small part to a superb four-goal salvo from Adam Jason as his quartet of strikes helped them to a 5-2 in over HMH.
David Tropp’s Real Life side are going through a tricky period of late having lost their past two games – 5-1 against Glenthorne and 9-3 against Bilbaum, while they failed to turn out for last week’s scheduled game against Redbridge.
Pinner have to go into this game as confident as they’ve ever been given their winning ways last wee, they’ll fancy their chances of inflicting more misery on Life, but you can’t quite see it happening.
