Streetwise Graduations!
New Year…New Start…Streetwise Helps New Year 7’s
For any new Year 7 pupil, the jolting change between Primary and Secondary school can seem somewhat overwhelming. Streetwise held a Year 7 Transition Course to help with this process.
Forty pupils across the country undertook a three week course engaging them in personal development and personal safety. Streetwise facilitators guided the young people though practical workshops aimed at helping them with their new school life. These useful sessions included tips on homework timetables, balancing the pressures of homework whilst including time to pursue hobbies. The young people were also able to act out and roleplay difficult situations they might face in school, and work together to resolve them.
This was mixed with the teaching of essential practical skills on road safety, advice on travelling safely on public transport and how to avoid conflict with strangers.
On attending their son’s course Graduation Ceremony, one parent commented on his decision to enrol his son. “I was very keen on my son attending the Streetwise Course now that he has left his Jewish School. Although I felt he would settle into his new school environment; it is a big change, and this course proved itself by giving him practical skills and confidence to use in school and also on his journeys outdoors on the street.”
Course graduate Maya stated at her Graduation, “I loved it and definitely going to come to another course. I really learnt a lot!” The new course dates for school years 7 to 11 are filling up quickly, so enrol now to avoid disappointment. All our courses are completely free.
