Healthy Living Programme
Streetwise has taken the battle to beat the couch potatoes head on. During the last month Streetwise and Maccabi GB have taken their new healthy living programme to 200 young people at 5 north London Primary schools.
The school children put down their pens and put on their trainers in a one hour overview of what healthy living is. The young people were put through their paces whilst learning about the different food groups, what a balanced diet is and getting the blood pumping learning easy exercise ideas.
Streetwise project worker Claire Simmons facilitated the sessions and spoke about the success of the new programme; “The programme is presented by using varied methods so that every child can participate and take pleasure in learning about this important subject.”
This programme covers aspects of the Personal, Social, Citizen, Health and Emotional (PSCHE) topics in the national curriculum, and is the third programme that Streetwise runs during the primary school year; the Transition to Secondary School and Anti-bullying programmes have been running for the last 2 years in over 25 Primary schools nationally.
There is a new Streetwise course in May presenting: Rap/Poetry and Drama workshops which will include Self defence and Street awareness. Participants will tackle everyday issues through new and creative methods. The course is for School Years 9-10 and is on May 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd at 6:30-9pm in Hendon.
