Streetwise Graduates 2010
The Streetwise Leadership Programme recently witnessed its Graduation Weekend held over the weekend of 25th - 27th June 2010. Seventy participants aged 14-18 were in attendance, completing their respective courses in order to receive their awards
The Leadership Programme has existed for over 30 years and relies on its previous graduates to deliver the training to the new generation of leaders. Across the year, a number of residential weekends and one-day events were held to provide the young leaders with positive experiences and invaluable access to leadership opportunities.
The Graduation Weekend was centred around the theme of ‘journeys’ which was interpreted in a number of different ways. Whole camp programmes included a Community Leader Simulation activity and a wide game based around the Israelite’s biblical journey through the desert to reach Eretz Yisrael. The havdallah ceremony, which was planned and led by a group of participants, provided the opportunity for everyone to reflect on their own personal journeys this year.
The weekend took place on the fourth anniversary of the capture of Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit. This provided the opportunity for a programme to be run with each age group focusing on the moral dilemma faced by the Israeli government surrounding Gilad’s captivity.
The graduation ceremony marked the end of a chapter in the Leadership Programme as each participant received their certificate. Guest speaker, Stuart Greenberg, Chairman of Maccabi GB, presented five Outstanding Achievement Awards to Individuals who had gone above and beyond in their commitment as leaders throughout the year.
Leadership Manager Sam Aboudara commented: ‘It has been a privilege to witness the development of these young individuals throughout the year and I look forward to continuing to see them grow in the future and make a positive impact on the lives of others.’
