Maccabi GB: Creating Tomorrows Leaders Today

November 2007

Leadership Weekend, November 2007

A blustery and chilly November weekend, saw 125 Maccabi GB leaders from around the country migrate to Sayers Croft in Surrey. The weekend of the 9 – 11 November was the setting for the first of this year’s National Leadership Programme Weekends.

The attending leaders were at various stages in their training; from the 14 year olds beginning their leadership training, to the nearly qualified practicing 18 year olds, who are running sessions at their local Maccabi clubs.

Leaders sign up to one of two tracks; education or sports. The education track give both practical and theoretical training on running informal educational programmes, and the sports track is a course accredited by Sports Coach UK qualifying young people to coach at a high level.

Claire Simmons, Maccabi GB Leadership Manager, said “The weekend was a great start to a new year of the National Leadership Programme. The tutors worked hard to put on interesting and exciting activities and these were brought to life by the enthusiasm and willingness of the leaders.”

With any Maccabi event, the organisations Jewish roots were ever present. A new and unique pluralist Maccabi Shabbat experience was put into practice, and the concept of ‘The Jewish Leader’ inspired the leaders in their training.
