Beit Halochem UK
Beit Halochem, which means 'House of Warriors,' was established to care for injured Israeli veterans and provide them with a rehabilitative environment where they can find respite and regain their deserved dignity and quality of life. The organisation also supports civilian victims of terrorist attacks.
Currently, there are north of 62,400 members of Beit Halochem (this number has increased by more than 11,400 since the 7th October) who benefit from our four Rehabilitation Centres located in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Beer Sheva. These members remain part of the organisation for the rest of their lives. With the assistance of donors, a fifth and final Rehabilitation Centre is being constructed in Ashdod. This new facility will accommodate 6,700 veterans and their families, totalling more than 14,500 individuals.
The Beit Halochem Centres offer a comprehensive range of exceptional rehabilitation services, including physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, and chiropractic treatments. These services are complemented by social and specialised sports options, educational programmes, and a wide array of creative activities. Sports play a crucial role in promoting positive health, well being, social inclusion, and community building for individuals with disabilities. Whether pursued as recreational activities or competitive endeavours, sports help individuals feel a sense of belonging. They also facilitate the development of important social skills, such as accepting one's disability, supporting fellow comrades, and appreciating the value of competition. Research has shown that increased participation in sports after sustaining injuries significantly improves the veterans' quality of life. Many veterans who have engaged in adaptive sports at Beit Halochem have achieved remarkable success in events like wheelchair tennis, wheelchair basketball, and swimming, even reaching the Paralympic level.
