Community’s four legged friends get active at Dog Walk

The 2019 Maccabi GB Community Dog Walk & Show took place on Sunday with more than 150 members of the Community and 40 prized pooches.

The unique, annual event, held at Mill Hill Park, allowed members of the Community to get active and enjoy the great outdoors with their four legged friends. The event got underway with a walk around a designated route before participants were able to visit a number of stalls including groomers, trainers, walkers, vets, the RSPCA, PDSA, Camp Simcha, and dog accessories.

As the sun came out, the participants heard from Luke Bolsom from Luke’s Dog School as he shared his top tips on how to get your dog’s attention. Before the competitions began, owners enjoyed the bouncy castle and had their face painted or glitter tattooed.

The competitions, which were the highlight of the day, allowed the owners to showcase their furry friends in a number of different categories. The awards included “Dog with the Waggiest Tail”, “Loveliest Lady”, brand new “Musical Sit”, “Most Fabulous Fella”, “Gorgeous Golden Oldie” and “Judges Favourite”.

Lisa Coffer who attended with Cooper the Goldendoodle said, “It was a fabulous afternoon for our furry loved ones!  Brilliant of Maccabi GB to make an event specifically for dogs! We had such a lovely time and although Cooper didn’t come home with a prize he had a terrific time meeting and playing with new friends! A really gorgeous way to spend a Sunday afternoon and raise important funds for the community too.”

Speaking about the event, Maccabi GB’s Events Co-Ordinator Valerie Parnes, said, “A fantastic day was had by all at the annual Maccabi GB Community Dog Walk & Show. We had some amazing prizes to win at our Maccabi GB Tombola, fun competitions for the dogs and a stroll around the park to see the different stallholders.  It was great to see family and friends with their beloved dogs come together for an active afternoon.”

Events Co-Ordinator Daniella Sherman continued “A special thanks has to go to our exhibitors, The Finchley Vet, Luke’s Dog School, Pet Mania, RSPCA Barnet, Camp Simcha, K9 Massage Guild, National Animal Welfare Trust, PDSA, Colindale Police, CST and Topsy Tumblers.”
