Stephen Joseph (Second Right) will oversee Team GB Tennis
Maccabi GB, in partnership with UJIA and the Jewish Chronicle, is delighted to officially announce that highly-respected and seasoned tennis player and manager, Stephen Joseph, will be the Team GB Tennis Chair for the 20th Maccabiah Games in Israel in 2017.
He is a 50-year veteran of the game, playing for a number of clubs before becoming a member of the David Lloyd Bushey Club for close to 25 years. During his time with Bushey, Stephen has competed in both the Men’s and Mixed Doubles teams, often as Captain, and has been a driving force in the recruitment of Jewish talent for club and country. His involvement with Team GB has seen Joseph compete as an athlete at the Maccabiah Games in 1993 and he took the next step at the European Maccabi Games 2015 (EMG2015), helping to manage the Masters Tennis Team in Berlin.
Stephen Joseph spoke about being appointed to oversee Great British Tennis for the 20th Maccabiah Games, “I am utterly delighted and honoured to be invited to head-up the Tennis for Team GB in Israel. My aim is to encourage as many top, Jewish tennis players from around the country to take part as possible. Representing your country and community in this unique event is an experience not to be missed and I implore those who play the sport at a good quality standard to apply. Having seen Jewish participants of all ages makes friends in Berlin [last summer at the EMG2015] I can truly say that these experiences should be grasped with both hands as athletes will remember them for the rest of their lives.”
Stephen will be announcing his management selection in the coming weeks.
Maccabi GB continues to recruit athletes of all ages from Junior to Open and Masters in both the Male and Female categories. Applications for players for all Team GB sports can be found by visiting www.maccabigb.org/maccabiah-games or call 0208 457 2333
