Leadership by Streetwise Graduation 2021 returns in person
Friday 8th October – London – On Wednesday 6th October, Leadership by Streetwise held their annual Graduation Ceremony back in person.
Throughout the evening, the achievements, passion and hard work of the 80 participants were celebrated, alongside the acknowledgment of the completion of the Sports Leaders UK Qualifications, in the three levels delivered on the course. The highest providing graduates with 16 UCAS points for their University application.
The evening was hosted by two young leaders approaching their last year on the programme, Evie Laifer and Harry Davis. Harry shared his hopes for joining the Tzevet, volunteer team of leaders, ‘Leadership has given me so much experience and I want to give back to the people who have guided me on my leadership journey. The leadership course has been some of the most valuable education that I have ever received and I am so glad that I signed up for this programme.’
Many of the Leadership participants will go on to take part in the Maccabiah Games in the Summer of 2022. Lily Myers spoke of how the Leadership programme will enhance her experience, ‘The skills I have learnt at leadership are not only for sports leaders, but for the athletes too. Things such as communication, teamwork and commitment are all essential on the pitch or when training with my team. I now feel that I can be a more effective player and leader, helping my teammates by using what I’ve learnt throughout the year, and hope to learn next course year.’
The evening was filled with speeches by participants and guests including Mark Gardner, Chief Executive of CST who are partners with Maccabi GB of the Leadership by Streetwise project, as well as Maccabi GB Chairman, David Pinnick, and Chief Executive Ashley Lerner.
As well as the graduates receiving their certificates for completing the course, there were two very special awards for the Maccabi man and Maccabi woman of the year. These were presented to Eva Myers and Jamie Epstein in recognition of their significant contribution and enthusiasm to the programme over the course of the year. There was also a video from many Leadership Alumni and the evening was concluded by Streetwise & Leadership Manager, Yvie Curtis.
Yvie spoke of her excitement for the launch of Leadership by Streetwise 2021/22. ‘As the world opens up, our Leadership programme starts again and we launch on Friday 8th October. We want to help you achieve your goals, get closer to your dreams, keep your spark alight. The Residential Weekends begin with a Tzevet weekend away in November, our participant weekend in December and we go back to volunteering with the community in February. This time it is much more special. We’ve seen our strength in tough times, and now we are a stronger community, a stronger family and we are ready to keep thriving.’
