This Sunday saw the 2017 Maccabi GB Community Badminton Tournament in partnership with UJIA take place, with thirty badminton players once again selling out this annual event. Although Maccabi GB medals were up for grabs, the family-friendly, enjoyable and fun atmosphere, ensured that everyone left with a smile on their face.
The Maccabi GB Community Badminton Tournament was the latest in the series of Maccabi GB Community Sports Days which are designed to bring together Jewish participants of all ages and abilities to play a variety of sports.
The event, held once again at Hendon Leisure Centre, welcomed players from across the Community and with Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced tournament categories, it didn’t matter if the players were previous Maccabiah athletes, or whether they just came to play for the fun of it.
David Menachem, who with his sons Ben and Sam are regular entrants to the tournament, summed up the ethos of the afternoon by saying; “We only play badminton together once a year at Maccabi GB Community Badminton. That’s what Maccabi GB is all about – family.”
Speaking about the Community Badminton Day, Maccabi GB Event Manager, Talia Fennessy said, “It is great to have an event whereby we can offer a fun and competitive atmosphere for members of the Community from the ages of 12 to 60. The Maccabi GB Community Sports Days encourage everyone to come together and play a sport they enjoy in a social, positive and Jewish setting.”
Team Maccabi GB are recruiting Badminton players in all categories and managers (18+) to represent Great Britain at the European Maccabi Games (EMG) in Budapest, July 2019. For more information and to apply visit www.maccabigb.org/emg2019.
