An announcement from Manchester Jewish Soccer League Chairman, Paul Rose Last Sunday saw the final day of the MJSL’s 73rd season as Haroldeans edged home 2-1 against Broughton Park Rangers in the Faye and Henry Shonn Cup Final. The Merseysiders took the lead inside 20 minutes when Marley Rubins scored but the equaliser came just before the break when Jasper Van Veen made it 1-1. A close second half was settled by an exquisite chip from Haroldeans top scorer Adam Shiffman. Man of the match was Eytan Dines (BPR).
Other awards presented were for Team and Manager Sportsmanship, both received by Shalom Treblow from Jewventus; Ben Kersh from Haroldeans picked up League Player of the Year and Adam Shiffman was League Top Scorer (21 goals). Our AGM is on 15th July then not too long after, it’s pre season training again. Big thanks to all players, managers, officials and committee members for making it through the longest season on record!
An announcement from Maccabi GB Southern Football League Chairman, David Wolff
The season has now concluded and the following winners are now confirmed PREMIER DIVISION Winners: Oakwood Runners up: Maccabi London
Oakwood are true champions. They are an excellent outfit who produce an exciting brand of football Maccabi London, likewise are a force to be reckoned with and will be there or thereabouts for several years. I must also mention HMH who were always in the frame but fell just short at the end.
DIVISION ONE I made mention in last week’s report of the winners and Runners up, London Bears and Hertswood Vale. They will both equip themselves well in the top flight.
DIVISION TWO Winners: NWL Azzurri Runners-up: Stoke Salmon
Either team could have won this division. Both are new to the league and both teams contain a classy group of players. They will do will as they progress through the league. Sadly this division suffered too many defaulted games
CYRIL ANEKSTEIN CUP Winners: Hendon United Sports Runners-up: Oakwood
This competition was the most difficult to organise because it had to be played mid-week. The final was played on 30th June and was an excellent contest between the two teams resulting in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes. The taking of kicks from the penalty spot resulted in a 5-4 win for Hendon United Sports. The match was handled by four completely competent officials.
We now enter a short rest period and start next season on 12th September. We expect to be in excess of 30 teams but there is a lot of preparatory work to do before the season starts.
The league could not exist without the hard work of its officers and without singling them out, you know who they are, I can only thank them for all their endeavours.
Please enjoy the break and I will keep you informed of any summer news that arises.
