Maccabi GB, in partnership with UJIA and the Jewish Chronicle, is delighted to announce the Open Women’s Football squad who will represent Great Britain at the European Maccabi Games in Budapest this July.
The squad, which is managed by Arthur Duke and Hollie Geey, is made up of talent and experience having previously represented Maccabi Great Britain at Maccabiah Games and JCC Maccabi Games in the USA. Coaching the squad is Gabriel John with Philip Turner as fitness coach.
On selection, Duke said “We are really proud of the squad that we are developing. We have some excellent young players who are going to have their first experience of playing as part of the women’s football squad. These girls are passionate, hardworking and really dedicated and their energy will be vital in Budapest. We then have our older more experienced players, some of whom have a few Maccabi Games under their belt. These girls will be bringing their knowledge, ability and experience as well as their passion to bring home a medal.”
Speaking about the squad’s aims, Geey continued, “As a team we would like to come home with a medal. We are grafting hard on our fitness and conditioning as well as our technical ability and playing as a strong unit. We would like the players to come away from this experience wanting to go again. I am extremely proud to be representing my country and community as a player/manager and I will continue to work hard for every player so that women’s football develops more and more with each Maccabi Games”
The squad is as follows:
Manager: Arthur Duke
Assistant Manager: Hollie Geey
Coaches: Gabriel John and Philip Turner
Team Maccabi GB will be competing alongside 3,000 other Jewish athletes from across Europe and Israel, Australia and America from 28th July – 7th August 2019.
