Maccabi GB, in partnership with UJIA and the Jewish Chronicle, is proud to announce that Arthur Duke, Hollie Geey and Gabriel John will oversee Team Maccabi GB’s Open Women’s Football squad at the 2019 European Maccabi Games (EMG) next summer in Budapest.
Duke, who led the squad in Israel last summer at the 20th Maccabiah Games, will be joined by assistant manager Hollie Geey and coach Gabriel John.
Speaking about his appointment, Duke said ““Having been involved in Jewish football since the age of 14, I am both honoured and excited to have been appointed to manage the Women’s Open football squad with Hollie and Gabe. We are looking forward to building on last summer’s Maccabiah Games and hopefully come home with a medal.”
Maccabi GB has been a huge part of Geey’s life since competing for Great Britain aged 13 years old at the JCC Maccabi Games. Most recently she played at the 2011 European Maccabi Games in Vienna and the Maccabiah Games last summer in Israel.
On what it means to represent your country and Community, Geey said “My experiences as a Maccabi GB player at various Games have been life changing and now to have the opportunity to pass on my knowledge, experience, passion, love of football and international tournaments to others is so exciting!”
John, whose footballing career spans over 20 seasons in the Maccabi GB Southern Football League and also has experience managing women’s sides, including a competitive five-a-side team, completes the management team in a coaching capacity. His footballing career has also seen him play for a number of semi-professional sides.
John said, “I’m a huge supporter of women’s football and really excited to represent Great Britain. Our aim is to get Team Maccabi GB Women’s Football on the map with a medal and deliver them with an experience they will never forget, on and off the pitch.”
