Monday 21st December, London - On Friday 18th December, Maccabi GB concluded the Miracle of Maccabi GB Chanukah Fundraising Campaign, raising over £70,000 for the organisation.
This was a matched funding campaign meaning each of the 400 donors who donated saw their gift doubled by a generous supporter of Maccabi GB.
David Pinnick, Maccabi GB Chairman commented, ‘It has been wonderful to see the level of support we have received throughout this campaign. These are very difficult times for everyone and we are very thankful that so many people have contributed to our Appeal. The funds that have been raised will help ensure that we can continue to provide our wide range of activities, which we know make a difference to thousands of people’s connection to the Community and their Jewish identity.’
The idea behind the Chanukah Fundraising campaign derived from the story of the Maccabees and the miracle of Chanukah, which is something we can all take inspiration from. None more so than the Maccabi Movement and Maccabi Great Britain, which was founded over 80 years ago, to provide British Jews with safe spaces to practice sport and enhance their Jewish identity.
Maccabi GB are confident that there will be very few people within the Community who have not either participated in or been a parent, grandparent or relative of someone who has benefited from one of Maccabi GB’s 250 projects, programmes and events. Each day the campaign focused on showcasing the work and fundraising for eight individual programmes and projects which included; International Games, the Community Fun Run, the Challenge Tour to Israel, PE sessions and after school clubs and our education programmes; Yellow Candle, Streetwise, Stand Up! and Leadership by Streetwise.
Ashley Lerner, incoming Chief Executive of Maccabi GB commented ‘We are so thankful for the support we received from so many members of the Community throughout this campaign. It has been great that Maccabi GB has been able to showcase the work that we do and highlight the impact that our projects, programmes and events have on so many people. The money raised will be split between our core fundraising and the individual projects and programmes.’
The original target was to raise £25,000 and within 24 hours this surpassed expectations and the goal was quickly increased to £50,000. The Community didn’t disappoint and the donations kept coming in, giving us the opportunity to increase the target once again and raising a total of £72,500 (to-date).
Maccabi GB would like to thank their matched giving donor who would like to remain anonymous as well as each person who gave so generously to the Miracle of Maccabi GB Fundraising Campaign.
