Streetwise was celebrating on Monday as they engaged their record-breaking 20,000th young person of the year during a session at Michael Sobell Sinai School.
Since being established nine years ago, Streetwise - a partnership project between Maccabi GB and CST - has built up its reach and is now present in every mainstream Jewish Primary and Secondary School in the UK. As well as their presence in Schools, Streetwise also works with many communal organisations and youth movements to enhance the personal safety and personal development of young, Jewish people in order to support their safe, physical, and emotional well-being.
With issues such as, internet safety, ‘sexting’, body image and Anti-semitism all so prominent amongst young people in today’s society, Streetwise works to ensure their programmes, courses and workshops help the development of positive, confident, healthy and aware Jewish people within the Community and beyond.
Speaking about the record-breaking achievement Streetwise Manager, Nathan Servi, said, “This is a very special day for us. Throughout the year we deliver a huge number of sessions to young people between the ages of 8 and 18; we educate on topics that are relevant and current and hope to give young people the skills and confidence to help them deal with many of the issues they face. Having engaged 20,000 young people in one year is a fantastic achievement.”
Martin Berliner, CEO to Maccabi GB and Streetwise, added, “It is a very proud moment for everyone involved with the Streetwise project that it has reached such an impressive number of young, Jewish people. I remember the very first session at JFS nine years ago and it is testament to the Streetwise team – both in London and the North of England - that they have worked so hard to incorporate the organisation into every mainstream Jewish school in the country. Streetwise has become synonymous with helping to grow our Community’s young people and we hope to do so for years to come.”
Mark Gardner, Director of Communications for the CST, said, ““CST is proud of its continuing partnership with Maccabi GB and the Streetwise project. It has been fantastic work by the Streetwise team and we look forward to their further success.”
The record-breaking number was achieved during an Anti-Bullying session with Year 6 Students at Sinai School.
