Over 50 people joined for an exclusive ‘evening in’ with BBC Sports Broadcaster Rob Nothman

Tuesday 20th October, London – On Monday 19th October, Maccabi GB hosted the latest in its series of ‘evening in…’ events with BBC Sports Broadcaster Rob Nothman. Presenter, commentator and journalist Adam Zoltie interviewed Rob and following the interview there was an audience Q&A.

Over 50 people from across the community and different ages joined to hear about Rob’s interesting career working as broadcaster and commentary coach as well as being a BBC Sports Broadcaster for over 35 years.

Maccabi GB Chairman David Pinnick commented ‘We were proud to host such a successful evening with Rob Nothman. It was great to see the tables turned and for Rob to become the interviewee. Rob inspired many with his stories and his passion for sports commentary.’

During the evening, Rob shared some memorable moments in his career including covering a range of different sporting events like the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games, World Cups, and Golf tournaments including Augusta, USPGA Tours and The Ryder Cup. Rob also shared his coaching stories and how he helped many ex-players in their punditry careers including well-known presenter and former English professional football player Gary Lineker.

As a Jewish broadcaster and avid member of his synagogue, Rob has balanced his Judaism and career throughout the years, and has been a supporter of Maccabi GB for a number of years.

Rob commented ‘Maccabi GB have done so much for so many people over such a long period of time and you have only got to see some of the videos they’ve produced to get a proper sense of the power for good that sport can provide. It aids physical well-being, but more importantly, it is the impact it has on mental well-being and self-confidence. It is the camaraderie of being involved with others, the friendships cemented, and that sense of achievement that people feel from the enjoyment of competition. It isn’t only about winning.’

So much has changed because of the current pandemic and Rob spoke about the changes and challenges he has faced over the last few months in his commentating role, and shared his thoughts for the future of sports.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the event and for those who donated to Maccabi GB. We are delighted to announce that the next event in our ‘evening in…’ series will be with Nick Bitel, Chief Executive of London Marathon Events and Chair of Sport England on Monday 30th November and we will be launching this very soon.
