From the Classroom to the Community: Streetwise Drives Change and Resilience

Alan Senitt: Our Final Seminar of 2025

This month saw the final two seminars of the Alan Senitt Upstanders Leadership Programme (ASULP). Over the past year, the Streetwise team, alongside Stand Up! have had the pleasure of working with 100 students for 10 different schools across London to build and harness their skills in teamwork, leadership and guide them through their social action projects. Each school created and actioned a project to tackle discrimination in their local area. The final seminar in May, focussed on reflecting on their projects so far and preparing the students for the upcoming ASULP graduation. The team ran a speech writing workshop that developed the student’s confidence and presentation skills, as well as an exemplar museum exhibition for students to gain inspiration on social action and how to present their projects. We were also delighted to have staff from Everyone’s Invited join us to talk about their initiative as well as empower the students to see that small actions can lead to great impact!  We wish all the ASULP students’ luck on their final steps in the programme and look forward to seeing them all come together for graduation.

Primary Body Image Campaign

The Streetwise team have been busy this month delivering Primary body image sessions, reaching just over 1700 young people. In KS1, these sessions have a heavy focus on positive self- image,

encouraging students to identify the things that make them unique and reflecting on their strengths, as well as introducing the idea and importance of self-esteem. We built on this with KS2 students, discussing factors which might influence our self-esteem such as beauty standards and the things we can do to dismantle these concepts. It was great to see the students engage with the topic and hear them speak about themselves and their achievements so highly. This topic is essential for young people, now more than ever, with harmful stereotypes and the reinforcement of beauty standards so accessible on all online platforms. The importance of this work was reinforced by teachers who said that the children are often vulnerable to peer comparison and that our sessions were a useful tool to help them understand themselves and to develop a positive mindset.

Streetwise & Jami: Online Safety Collaboration

At the end of the month, Streetwise (in collaboration with Jami), hosted Plugged In, Switched On: Raising Resilient Digital Natives, a webinar designed to enable parents and carers to better support their young people in navigating an increasingly digital world with confidence. We were thrilled to have over 100 registrations from across the community.

Hosted by Abi Wander (Streetwise Project Manager) and Emma Dorman (Senior Education Coordinator, CYP Education Lead, Jami), the session provided practical, adaptable strategies to foster healthy online habits, build resilience, and promote digital literacy at home. With the internet playing a central role in young people's lives—offering both opportunities and risks—parents often feel overwhelmed by the challenge of keeping up with ever-changing platforms and trends. This webinar aimed to demystify that world, offering up-to-date insights on popular social media platforms and tips to empower parents to guide their child’s online experiences with confidence.

The webinar marked the launch of the Streetwise x Jami Digital Resilience Guide, a brand-new resource created to support families in navigating these conversations, promoting balance, wellbeing, and safety in the digital age.
