Strength, Safety, and Self-Confidence: Streetwise in Action

Personal Safety & Krav Maga

With the recent publication of CST’s annual Antisemitic Incidents Report, we continue to work closely with schools, communities, and organisations to provide Antisemitism, Personal Safety, and Krav Maga workshops. Our goal is to develop young people’s confidence and ability to keep themselves safe, both online and in their everyday lives.

This month, we were delighted to collaborate with Hampstead Garden Suburb Synagogue at their Cross-Communal event. We delivered Antisemitism workshops and introductory Krav Maga training to over 100 young people aged 11-12. The participants engaged maturely in challenging conversations around antisemitism, deepening their knowledge and building confidence in maintaining their personal safety.

Sessions

The Streetwise team has been busy delivering sessions in schools across London. Throughout March, we reached 2,200 students with workshops on Online Safety, Road Safety, Body Image, Sexual Health, Transitions Post-School, Antisemitism, and Personal Safety.

A highlight of the month was the launch of our Body Image and Self-Esteem campaign. This initiative aims to build young people’s confidence and self-awareness. For Key Stage 1 students, the programme introduces concepts of individuality and the power of positive affirmations. As students mature, the curriculum expands to explore how external influences affect body image and provides strategies to improve confidence and self-esteem.

We were also excited to partner with Jewish Women’s Aid to deliver dedicated ‘drop-down’ days for Year 11 and Year 13 students at King Solomon High School. Our team provided core Sexual Health programming for all students, while Year 13 participants engaged in a Transitions Programme. Launched in 2022, this programme helps students consolidate their PSHE learning through in-depth scenario work, bridging the gap between their school and the real-world decisions they will face. By reinforcing the link between RSE learning and personal safety, the session encourages students to stay well-informed about sexual health and decision-making.

Training

This month, the Streetwise team, alongside Stand Up! and Tackling Antisemitism in Sport, had the opportunity to attend the annual UJIA Kenes Conference. The theme for this year’s conference was Peoplehood, exploring what unites and divides the Jewish community, as well as how we can collaborate to create positive change.

The event featured a variety of insightful talks and panel discussions with representatives from the UJIA, Shalom Hartman Institute, LSJS, JPR, and Jnetics. It was an invaluable opportunity for our team to experience different facilitation styles and reflect on how we can integrate these approaches into our own work.
