About Maccabi GB

Maccabi GB is Britain’s leading Jewish Sports, Health and Wellbeing charity and has flourished for over 80 years. The Organisation focuses on three central areas of work: Sport, Community and informal education. A member of Maccabi Europe, Maccabi GB has a professional staff team of 18, and an annual turnover of £1.5m and through its projects, programmes and events each year, engage up to 60,000 people nationally. The Maccabi GB Youth Games (EMYG24)

Maccabi GB are delighted to be hosting the inaugural European Maccabi Youth Games ‘EMYG24’, taking place in London from July 30 to August 6, 2024. To see the promotional video please click here.

 

Hundreds of young people from across Europe and the world, will be participating in a week of sporting competition, London sightseeing, learning about British Jewish history, culture and tradition and having a true Maccabi Jewish experience.

 

Based on one campus, the EMYG will feature up to 23 sports in Youth (U18) and Junior (U16) competitions.

 

As part of the EMYG, a specific programme for young athletes with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) will be piloted. The provision will aim to combine specific SEND sports competitions, divisioning of SEND athletes to complete in the overall competition and offering taster sessions in various sports for all athletes with SEND.

Volunteering Opportunities

The EMYG is a special event not only for Maccabi GB but for the entire Jewish Community in the UK and Europe and this is your chance to be a big part of the games. We have a number of volunteering roles available that can give you opportunities to learn new skills, meet new people and feel part of the EMYG Community.

Administration and Logistics

What is it?

 

This will involve working closely with our Director of Finance and managing different people, ensuring the smooth running of the control centre, overseeing any requests from the helpdesk/phones/maintenance/medical/keys/credentials.

 

This role is for you if...

  • You would like a volunteering role which requires lots of interpersonal communication

  • You are a quick thinker and can prioritise many different tasks at once

  • You are an organised person who does not panic under pressure

 

This role will consist of:

  • Working closely with our Director of Finance

  • Managing and responding to participant needs and requests and passing on to the relevant department

  • Working with Maintenance / Security as needed and when necessary

  • Ensuring all requests are completed and solved​​

Education and Planning

What is it?

 

This will involve being in frequent contact with and working closely with VIP’s of the event. This will be during the Games and will also require collaboration with the Events / Ceremonies Team, the Catering Team and the Transport Team.

   

This role is for you if...

 

  • You have excellent communications skills, both written and verbal

  • You want a volunteering role where you can work directly with esteemed people within the community

  • You work well within a team

 

This role will consist of:

 

  • Working on VIP events with the Events / Ceremonies and Catering teams

  • Liaising with VIPs throughout the event

  • Assisting VIPs with accommodation

  • Working with the Transport team if transport is required

Engagement and Promotion

What is it?


This involves helping oversee many of the major marketing & communications aspects of the event, including signage, online and social media coverage, and working with various parties to ensure thorough promotion of the Event.

   

This role is for you if...

 

  • You have some sort of prior experience within marketing & communications, whether in a professional context or otherwise 

  • You are well-organised and able to balance many competing priorities  

  • You want a volunteering role where you can utilise your online skills and passion for social media  

 

This role will consist of:

 

  • Developing and delivering a campaign to raise awareness of the event – social media, press, emails, promotional materials for Team GB  

  • Providing daily updates to changes in scheduling to participants/spectators during the event  

  • Ensuring marketing activities take place during the event to raise awareness of goings on  

  • Working closely with programming, YTL, Families, volunteers, participant care, and office teams to ensure everything is covered  

  • Creating a page on Maccabi GB website with all information including scheduling, timings, medal table  

  • Sub-teams: photographers, social media, press liaison, videographers, programming updates/support, scheduling updates and sports results  

  • Working with brand designers and the Purchasing team on all signage for the event  

  • Ensuring all signage is in the correct locations and set up prior to and during the event 

Event Support Services

What is it?

This will involve working with the venue catering team in the planning and delivering of all catering in the leadup to and throughout the event.

    

This role is for you if...

 

  • You have a passion for food and catering, especially within a large-scale event context

  • You have an understanding of different dietary requirements

  • You have good time-management and organisational skills

 

This role will consist of:

  • Working with venue catering team on menus, timings, numbers

  • Collating dietary requirements and ensuring all food is labelled

  • Ensuing packed lunches are ready for when needed

  • Working with Kashrut Board 

Operations

What is it?

 
Ensuring different on-site aspects of the event are working and liaising with the Sports Team and site representatives throughout the event.

   

This role is for you if...

 

  • You work well under pressure and can deal with issues if / when they arise

  • You enjoy working within a team

  • You want a volunteering role where you are directly involved in the running of a sporting event

 

This role will consist of:

 

  • Liaising with site representatives to finalise utilisation of the site(s), sports schedule and set up, and ensure contract arrangements are met during the event  

  • Making sure teams are where they need to be

  • Working closely with the Sports team to ensure equipment is present in time

  • Ensuring any issues during an event are solved

  • Running and recording scores where applicable

  • Ensuring officials know where to go in plenty of time

Madrichim

We are looking to recruit Madrichim who will play a major part in ensuring the European Maccabi Youth Games 2024 (EMYG24) are the best they can be for all guest delegations from across the world!

What you will do

 

You will be the main point of contact for a group of up to 30 junior athletes. You will support their managers/coaches and be their British liaison to ensure everything runs smoothly for them. You will be the main link between the Games management and your group of international athletes and managers. You will ensure your group are aware and attend everything they need to, from their own sports schedule, to supporting others, to educational trips, social events and shabbat experiences. This is an amazing opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience, especially for those who are learning a language and wish to use and practice it in a fast-paced, exciting environment.
