Walking Football, a new Maccabi GB Affiliate
This month, we were delighted to welcome the Maccabi GB Walking Football League to our list of affiliated leagues; they received approval at the Maccabi GB AGM and the league, which consists of 4 teams have now played 5 fixtures. Elite Athletes
Naveh Kraus and Max Radiven, the two elite athletes currently sponsored by the Maccabi GB Brady Endowment Fund, have both ended their years strongly. Max ended the year as the no.1 ranked Table Tennis Cadet in England, winning the Chippenham Junior 4 Star Open Championship earlier this month, he’s also attended the ETTU Talent Camp held in France.
Meanwhile, TaeKwan Do prodigy Naveh has recently achieved the incredible rank of 2nd Dan black belt. We’re delighted to be able to continue supporting these fantastic athletes into next year.
School Sport
This month saw several Primary and Secondary school tournaments, we hosted our final Primary School Netball tournament of the year, the Year 5 and 6 mixed. We welcomed 54 players from six teams representing three schools. Kerem A came out as champions, having won the round robin style tournament.
We also continued our secondary school tournament programme with the Year 7 – 11 Girls’ Badminton tournament. Four secondary schools sent 40 players across the age groups. The tournament was a round robin between the competing schools who each provided one doubles pairing per year group. Yavneh College emerged victorious in the Year 7, 9 and 10 tournament. JFS came out champions in the Year 8 tournament and JCoSS took home the gold medal in the Year 11 event.
We continued with our primary school PE provision, where we provide PE to 3 schools, the topic for this term has been Invasion Games. Our PE programme works with years Reception to Year 6 and we teach 650 pupils a week across 19 lessons.
Alongside the PE provision we also provide After School clubs, we currently run one after school club at Torah Temimah Primary School however we’re delighted to be working with Nats Netball Club to offer a second club which will begin in January, this club will take place weekly and will offer high quality Netball coaching to pupils from Year 3-6.
Grassroots Sports
Our Grassroots sport provision has seen a lot of action in December, our Netball League had their 5th round of fixtures, the league is proving increasingly popular and is growing weekly. We’re delighted that there are now 21 teams competing across the three leagues and 252 players playing weekly. Our website provides fixture updates along with league tables and is available here.
The Peter Morrison Trophy has reached the Quarter Final round, there are still some ties to be played but we’re delighted that there are still representatives from London along with Manchester involved in the competition. The next round of matches will be held in January
Student Sports
The Student Sports Committee, a joint partnership between Maccabi GB, UJS and JAthlete supported an event between Sussex JSoC and Nottingham JSoC on Saturday 2nd December, the match which was held post Shabbat was the first Inter-JSoC match for the Sussex JSoC, the committee provided kit and assisted with their travel arrangements.
We want to wish a huge Mazel Tov to Nottingham JSoC Netball team who went the whole season undefeated and won their league!
