Strengthening Roots, Inspiring Futures: Maccabi GB Sport Update

Community Sport

This month saw the successful delivery of Maccabi GB’s first ever Padel Tournament. The event sold out with 32 players taking part, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Following this success, discussions have begun with Dyrham Park Padel Club to explore a partnership for hosting future tournaments and events.

The grassroots basketball programme continues to expand, with work underway to establish three new clubs under the Maccabi GB Basketball umbrella. The first taster session for U14s was well attended, attracting 35 participants and demonstrating a strong demand for new playing opportunities.

The Maccabi GB Southern Football League has restarted, with three divisions in operation and teams returning to competitive league football for the season ahead.

Preparations have also begun for the launch of the Maccabi GB Community Tennis Tournament, which will be held later this year and is expected to attract strong interest from across the community.

In addition, Maccabi GB has been working with a group of parents to assist in the organisation and running of a new parents’ football league, further broadening the range of opportunities for adult participation in community sport.

Schools Sport

The new academic year has seen the roll-out of Maccabi GB’s updated PE curriculum across three partner schools. This ensures that every child, from Reception through to Year 6, receives high-quality PE lessons every week. In total, 650 pupils are now benefitting from structured physical education that is aligned with the National Curriculum. Early feedback from teachers has been very positive.

The primary school tournaments programme has also resumed, providing children with opportunities to take part in competitive inter-school sport. The first two tournaments of the year focused on netball:

  • Year 5 Netball Tournament

The tournament brought together 8 teams from 5 different schools, with 80 players taking part and around 40 spectators in attendance. The competition concluded with Sinai crowned champions following a well-contested day of fixtures.

  • Year 6 Netball Tournament

This larger event saw 14 teams from 10 schools competing. A total of 125 players took part, supported by around 50 spectators. The final was closely contested between Alma and Akiva Red, with Alma securing a 1–0 victory to win the trophy.

Both tournaments were well attended and provided excellent opportunities for schools and families to come together through sport.

Student Sport

Engagement with the student sport project has continued, with a meeting held with UJS to confirm Maccabi GB’s support for the year ahead. A further meeting is scheduled with JAthlete to discuss opportunities for collaboration and the creation of a comprehensive student sport programme.

Inspiring sports update emphasizing strong foundations! As a community organizer, I value how this approach balances tradition with innovation in youth development. The focus on building lasting skills while inspiring future growth resonates deeply. When planning our own programs, we often recommend crazygames's free online games as supplementary activities - they help maintain engagement between sports sessions while reinforcing the same values of perseverance and strategic thinking!
